Nokia N76
Nokia N76 has been made available on the market in April at an estimated, pre-tax, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 400 euros.Nokia N76 is UMTS compatible and offers maximum downloading speeds of up to 384 Kbps. N76 integrates good connectivity features beside 3G, such as: GPRS Class 32, 107 / 64.2 kbps, EDGE Class 32, 296 / 177.6 kbits, HSCSD 57.6 kbit/s, Bluetooth 2.0 and miniUSB 2.0.
The phone is big, perhaps one of the biggest clamshells on the market, measuring 106.5 x 52 x 13.7 mm (folded) and weighing 115 grams (battery included)
Besides the good processor, the phone offers a good-quality sound for music fans, provided that they use better headphones than those included in the sales package.
Nokia indirectly recognized that the N76 model has many major faults in its construction and software integration by accepting covering warranties that include things which are not standard for a handset. The faulty design, the cheap material, as well as the low life battery are among the negative points of the clamshell. There are also serious bugs with the phone such as: lag control of the external music dedicated keys, call interruptions, as well as restarts of the operating system when running clips recorded. Even if these bugs are not present in all phones, it still denotes a bad implementation of the S60 platform.[via]
LG KU580
LG KU580 was announced in April 2007 as a Vodafone exclusive mobile phone which cannot be bought from another mobile network operator. Even if this considerably limits the phone's market, the latest of the Chocolates will certainly not be overlooked by fans. Chocolate Multimedia can be bought only from Vodafone starting last month for about 400 USD without any plan. The glossy black plastic feels warm to the touch, especially after talking more than 10 minutes on the phone. Moreover, it scratches very easily no matter what you do, and that also includes the screen. Almost identical in sizes with older Chocolates (94 x 53 x 16.5 mm), the LG KU580 is the least heavy weighing only 73 grams (battery included), that's almost 20 grams less.
LG KU580 (Hero) is the top of the Chocolate line, thus it features latest connectivity technologies: GPRS (Class 10, 32 - 48 kbps), EDGE (Class 10, 236.8 kbps), 3G (384 kbps), Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0. As seen in the screenshots, there's almost no difference between EDGE and 3G data transfer speeds, only upload speeds are different.
The best thing regarding LG KU580 is the updated firmware which corrected a whole bunch of bugs that were present in previous models (Platinum Chocolate, Shine). The phone is a masterpiece in terms of design; as usual LG did a great job. I was also surprised by the multimedia part which was much better than I expected with loud and clear vibes.
Even if the phone features a whole range of Internet capabilities, these are working at mediocre standards and could ruin the users’ Web experience. A bigger display and a better camera module would've made it perfect for its price.[via]

Soban Photo Keychain

The Soban Photo Keychain is a replacement for storing wallet-sized pictures of your kids printed out on—gasp—paper. Instead, the Soban has 128mb of memory storing up to 7,000 (really tiny) photos. A slideshow can run for 8 hours on a charge.
Let's be clear about one thing: the Soban is not a good product. Even if the screen is decent, it's too bulky for a keychain when we can already use cellphones for a similar purpose. However, should such a display be thinned and actually fit in a wallet, it could be a reasonable product update for baby boomers and retro cool to the younger generations. At least that's my two cents on the matter. source : gizmodo

Nokia 8600 Luna

In an announcement made today, Nokia announced the Nokia 8600 Luna. Designed for the willing-to-spend-lots-of-money-on-a-crazy-new-phone-that-will-be-outdated-consumer, the Luna is a slider that combines stainless steel with a layer of smoked glass. Even better, when the phone is closed, the keypad illuminates and the lights pulsate under the glass. The Luna will offer quad-band GSM, a 2-megapixel camera, music player, and Bluetooth.
Expect the Luna to hit European shores in the coming months at a whopping 700 euros. So far the company has not revealed US carriers, but given the GSM, don't look for it on Verizon. source [via]

Ultra Entertainment, Ultra Slim
The Samsung a717 is like a one-man band – but a lot cooler and a lot more powerful. The point is, this phone is all about entertainment. The 3G high speed data access makes it easy to stream, download and enjoy endless hours of music, videos, TV, radio and more. And with the built-in 2.0 megapixel camera, you can upload a bit of entertainment, as well. In other words, you don’t have to be talking on this phone to enjoy it.

Toshiba Satellite RG4-E02 Approved by FCC
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently approved the Pocket PC phone Toshiba Satellite RG4-E02. The device is actually Toshiba G900, already available in other countries. Now, after FCC’s approval, US customers can enjoy this super phone too, under the name of RG4-E02.Toshiba Satellite RG4-E02 operates on Windows Mobile 6, it has a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an elegant design. A photo and video camera of 2 MP with a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 pixels is integrated, but probably one of the most appreciated features is the very generous display: a 3 inch TFT LCD with Touch screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. This will surely give users an excellent mobile internet experience. With such a display, and being a Pocket PC phone, RG4-E02’s dimensions are not as big as some may think: 119 x 61 x 21.5 mm with a weight of 198 grams.
The phone is 3G-compatible and features tri-band GSM (with GPRS and EDGE included) and one-band UMTS (HSDPA included). Among other important features, we can name: fingerprint recognition, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, headset connector, microSD card for up to 2 GB of extra memory, Pocket Office, photo album and photo editor, MP3 player, voice memo etc. The device has an industry-standard mini-USB connector, which means that any mini-USB cable can be used, and not only the original one. The standard Li-Ion battery can keep RG4-E02 in stand-by for 260 hours and provides a talk time of up to 4 hours and 20 minutes.
Some of the pre-installed applications are Opera Browser, Picsel Viewer, Java, TIPtalk, Teleport and GoldKey.
A US price had not yet been announced for Toshiba RG4-E02. But, regardless of price, the high resolution and the other nice features (plus the fact that it runs on Windows Mobile 6) will make this Pocket PC phone an important competitor for all the other mobile devices of this type released in the US.[via]

Nokia 6085 Review
Always researching, always monitoring the telecommunications market, Nokia tries to offer a wide range of mobile solutions. Nokia 6085 is the result of such a market research that seemed to demand, at that time a mid-priced phone. If you're a fan of clamshell handsets this is a good and cheap alternative to a good-looking phone with low features. Unfortunately, along the way something happened and people are more attracted by the design of the phone forgetting about functionality. If that's the case with you also, expect NOT to like Nokia 6085, but instead just use some of its good features. You will probably be amazed by some of those and disappointed by others, because that makes the handset a mid-level class phone.Announced in September 2006 the handset was made available in Q4 of the same year and can be acquired for about USD 170-200, depending on the market location.DesignPity that I'm forced to start with something bad, but the phone looks like it hasn't been finished. Maybe "unattractive" is the best word that can describe the look, but I'm wondering why Nokia launched the handset in this form. I don't want to be too rude about it, but even a barbarian wouldn't like the phone. The material used at the manufacture is largely used for entry and mid-level handsets. The back and the face cover of the phone are polished so they are a little shiny in the sun. Other than that the phone surely won't stand out from the crowd. A piece of advice, don't drop it by mistake as the case will be pretty damaged.
Processor and MemoryNow this is great, imagine that this mid-level handset embeds an ARM9 family processor which runs at 240-245 Mhz speeds. For Java applications Nokia 6085 uses Jazelle technology which executes Java bytecode directly in hardware of the processor. This practically enables the phone to achieve high performances which translates in fast start-up applications and better execution in a small memory footprint. The 4 MB internal memory will probably force you to immediately acquire a microSD card. In fact this is one of the strong points of the device, the presence of a microSD slot which supports up to 4GB of memory expansion card.
MultimediaThe music player integrated is pretty much the same as those you'll find in more updated models like Nokia 5200 for example. The sound of the phone is also better than we anticipated and that includes the external speaker. I'm sure that using other headphone that the headset included with the phone will improve the multimedia experience considerably. The FM radio can memorize up to 20 stations and can be activated only by inserting some headphone. The reception of the stations is a little bit above average and can make you quite happy for the price you paid. Overall, if you change the headset and replace it with some average headphone, you'll be able to enjoy the multimedia features of the phone. more information visit[via]

Toshiba 814T, the Titanium Mobile Phone
Japan seems to be exclusively getting its hands on a large number of unique mobile phones. Just now, they have expanded their cellular line with the Toshiba 814T model. It is probably not even that special to have a thin design anymore, as a large number of handsets have been using this popular feature in order to attract and automatically obtain the appreciation of mobile phone buyers. Still, we must mention the fact that Toshiba 814T is only 12.9 mm thick. That is quite impressive, although this feature alone will fail to make it gorgeous. The slim case probably did not hit the soft spot of all mobile phone buyers, so it comes with another feature that is just as special. Toshiba 814T has a Titanium panel, which will probably make it harder than rock. Aside these facts, the handset has a simple design, with a tiny one-color external display. The lines are slightly rounded on the corners with a smooth touch.
When opened, the phone will reveal a keypad with large, difficult-to-miss buttons. Moreover, it has an internal 2.4 inch display screen, which proves to be quite impressive in the case of a flip phone. Toshiba 814T also has a 2 megapixel camera that is meant to provide high quality pictures.
The memory capacity for this phone model has not been specified yet, but it also has a microSD memory card slot. Still, Toshiba 814T comes without several features that would normally be considered essential in the case of the more technologically evolved handsets. The phone lacks Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation and WiFi support.
Toshiba 814T will be available in Japan starting this July in a variety of five different colors to choose from. The price that it will be available for has not been revealed yet.[via]

Sony W660i Walkman Phone Has Been FCC Approved
Sony brings a new solution for high quality music experience. Sony W660i has not been released yet, but it is not far from becoming available, as it has just been FCC approved.Sony W660i has several interesting aspects that might make it appealing for many of those that are passionate when it comes to music. This phone model comes equipped with TrackID, which makes it possible to easily identify a melody that the user doesn't recognize at first. All that the user has to do is record a few seconds of the track over the microphone. TrackID automatically sends the clip to Gracenote Mobile MusicID database, which later returns information on the album and artist that are associated with the song. The phone is incredibly slim, at only 14.5 mm thick and comes in two colors, of Rose Red and Record Black. Moreover, it has a TFT screen that is capable of supporting a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The phone's design makes it easy to use, being equipped with fast access buttons.
Sony W660i comes with an integrated memory of 16 MB, but it also features support for Memory Stick Micro, which considerably increases its storing capacity up to 1GB. Actually, this phone can store an average number of 1000 songs, with the maximum space available after memory expansion.
Connectivity is available for this Sony W660i through Bluetooth and USB port. Moreover, it supports a wide range of sound file types that make this cellular fully deserve the Walkman phone title.
As for Internet access, Sony W660i comes with a reliable Web browser, has RSS feeds enabled and is also capable of supporting video calls and video transfers.
Sony Ericsson has not revealed any details on the price that this phone model will be available for, but it did promise a release soon.[via]

Samsung to Release the Thin E210
Thin is nice, Samsung Mobile keeps on saying with the continuous releasing of ultra-slim cell phones. And we agree, thin is indeed nice. E210 is the latest member of the Samsung Ultra Edition II family and it's an affordable entry-level clamshell phone. It's the first low-to-mid-range handset to benefit from the high-end D830's sophisticated technology. This new E210 has an attractive design (it would have been weird not to) and it's a bit like Motorola KRZR K1, but it doesn't have as many features as the KRZR.E210 is less than 0.7 inches thick (1.65 cm) and weighs 82 grams, which is not much at all for a clamshell, everyone must agree on this. The flip phone comes in two colors, blue and black, both with chrome lining. It features a 65K color screen with a 120x160 pixels resolution, a 1.3 MP camera (with video recording ability of 15 frames per second), Bluetooth connectivity, USB, microSD memory card slot and MP3 playback. E210 has an internal memory of 10 MB and supports GSM 900/1800/1900.
It's not the first time that Samsung creates an affordable cell phone using technology from a high-end handset. For example, the E200's design and technology were "taken" from the ultra-thin X820 candybar.
Samsung E210's release date is not known yet. But it will probably be available in Europe pretty soon (and then in the US), for a decent price of about 200 dollars (150 Euro).
Considering its features and costs, it's clear that E210 is for those who want an affordable good looking phone that doesn't have extravagant characteristics. The demand for such affordable handsets is not at all negligible, and big manufacturers like Samsung know it, that's why they'll keep on releasing these entry-level cell phones.[via]
Sony Ericsson Promote Their Walkman Devices
Sony Ericsson has signed a deal with Emap2 in order to properly advertise their new Walkman phone series. The contract between advertising company Emap2 and Sony Ericsson will be valid over a period of one year. By this time, three separate campaigns will run, emphasizing the advantages brought by Sony's mobile phones, capable of rendering music at high qualities. "Following the success of last year’s campaign with Emap2, we were committed to working together again and to look at the creative possibilities for Sony Ericsson this year. This new campaign will take us to the next level in terms of exposure to music fans, a level of exposure made a lot easier to achieve thanks to Emap’s fantastic media brands that will carry the great campaign ideas to the audience", said David Hilton, head of marketing at Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland.Emap2 will include advertisements in radio, print, TV and online offerings in order to make the names of Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones stand out as the most efficient devices for mobile music listening.
The campaigns will be called "My Music Mate", "Greatest Unheard Artists" and "Kiss My Mix", each with a different strategy. They are all suggestive names that promise highly creative executions of the concept that the advertising company and Sony Ericsson both wish to deploy.
All advertisements, and especially the online ones, are meant to direct people to microsites where they can find further information on the campaign. Moreover, those that actually access these sites can enter competitions that might bring them Sony Ericsson mobile phones and many other prizes.
Emap Advertising is an advertising company that seeks solutions based on the understanding of online consumer behavior. It mostly uses the way that people feel while browsing the Internet in order to find better solutions to respond to their needs.[via]
